His undisputed talent as a ventriloquist, combined with his undoubted comedy genius, has made him an international star as well as one of Britain’s most popular and enduring artistes.
The great thrill of entertaining the public began in earnest at the age of six he appeared in pantomime; and his comedy flair and timing were honed when he joined his father in a double act that successfully survived many years on the hardest training grounds – the Northern working men’s clubs.
By the time Keith was seventeen he had appeared at the world famous London Palladium and in future years would appear there many more times – Sunday Night at the London Palladium and The London Palladium Show which also toured Canada and Australia with Orville and Cuddles and the rest of Keith’s adopted family. He is in constant demand wherever boys and girls bring their mums and dads to the theatre and no more so than during the pantomime season. Over the past ten years Keith has broken the box office records at Nottingham and Oxford (Aladdin) and Cardiff, Birmingham, Rhyl, Southport, Sunderland, Ayr and London (Humpty Dumpty). In a show at the Dominion Theatre in London’s West End, Keith achieved a life long ambition by not only starring but also producing and directing
Summer season, too, has seen Keith headline and again the House Full signs were out for his resident shows at Scarborough, Bournemouth and Blackpool. Such is his phenomenal popularity that when Bobby Crush penned a special tribute to Keith and called it Orville’s Song, The resultant record soared to No.4 in the UK Pop Charts, selling over 350,000 copies. In the 1991 production Keith presented a brilliant interpretation of Charlie Chaplin meeting Orville – yet again a further example of his inventive mind.
